Ack ack ack fat rant alert

So looking for stuff online I bumped into this. The photos are lovely. Really they are. But what bothers me about it is these women are supposed to be overweight. REALLY??? Okay one of them could classify as plump, but if any of them is larger than a size 12 I'll fall over laughing.

What is the matter with us?

  1. I see your point, about the women in the pictures, there is fat and then there is *fat*, and these women are, objectively, not very far into the fat category, so in many ways this is not fair as a testimonial about *fat* women.

However, At my chubbiest I was a smaller size than these girls. I'm a smaller size now. And I have serious body issues nonetheless. As much as I'd like to believe that I am strong enough to not be influenced by the images we see in the media, its just not true. It makes a huge difference to how I see myself. And these photographs? Yes ok they aren't *fat*, but it is a massive step in the right direction. If we had advertisements featuring women who looked like *real* women it would make living with our imperfections so much easier. Even possible.

So again, I am not for a second saying that this isn't ludicrous at some level, but the fact that you can look beautiful even if you have the punjabi curse of childbearing hips or thunder thighs is, for me, an achievement. Howver small it might be.

  2. oh i TOTALLY agree. its a step in the right direction. a leap even. but holy bejeezus, as a step its traumatic for someone like me who really IS fat. by EVERY definition.

  3. You also have a fat head! Muahmuahmuahmuah.
In reference to the article you had posed on facebook, I don't want to be one of the friends and family that encourage misconceptions, though honestly I don't think you suffer from any.

But to be on the safe side.

Yes this is a problem, and I think you have committment issues in solving it. BUT. I love you, and you are, always have been and always will be in my special treatment club.
